A digital audio workstation (DAW) is software for composing and recording music. Crescendo 8.50 is installed on my Mac. I bought the Master version. However, when I was on trying to make sounds work, it wasn’t a simple thing. At first, I went to the default setting of the piano instrument but it didn’t make any sound either. When I checked the different options, it wasn’t until I found the right settings of the VST (Virtual Studio Technology) that worked. So I recommend buying the VST version instead. You can download it from the Apple Store.
So I have been using Crescendo now for about 6 years and it has been a solid performer in this role. Crescendo has one of the best interfaces of any application I have used. When I first purchased it, there were some issues which had been reported back when it first came out, but they have been resolved with the updates.

In the latest update, Crescendo got a major speed up. The sound engine is now running in separate threads. I’m adding the new features in steps. It’s the new standard procedure in coding. It’s highly easier to add a new feature when everything else has already been implemented.
The multitasking features in Crescendo are now working
For now, there is only one way to edit the menu bar configuration. A config file is stored in C:\Users ch\AppData\Roaming uendo.crescendo. In there you can set or remove the menu bar configuration for Crescendo. It would be easier if the config file was stored in a folder in the crescendo folder, or even the crescendo.exe folder.
The multi platform Crescendo 7 is a great tool to make music for all the platforms. The quality of the sound engine is great and it’s a great synth as well. Although, it lacks some features such as MIDI mapping and for some reason, there are random crashes while recording, but that’s normal, even on the Windows version.
For the Mac versions, use the latest version of the app. It’s a plugin but works great!
There was an issue with the bundled keyboard. It couldn’t load the bundled keyboard with Crescendo 7. It was fixed in Crescendo 8.
You can still play non bundled keyboards, but you have to tell the keyboard what to load when it is started first.
Visualize this: You’re composing in a particular time signature, and decide to change the Key signature to match. Or, perhaps you notice your melody line coming out of the measure one key higher, so you want to make sure it stays there. Crescendo allows you to use a straight-line and drag your notes onto a ruler to snap them in the new key, or, you can use a key signature to quickly transpose your music.
Then you realize your melody line is coming out of the treble clef, and you want to change it to the alto clef or change the pitch. No problem, just drag and drop and you’ve done it, no matter what the notes are or what is underneath them.
You can also drag and drop your notes to change their pitch or position. You can even change the time signature if you desire, just be sure to have enough space (usually one bar). Then, to finalize your composition, you can add lyrics, add titles, specify dynamics, and more. After you’re done, you can listen back to your composition with MIDI playback.
